COMMENTARY

HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI AND CONGRESS' IMPEACHMENT OF THE PRESIDENT

By ANH LÊ

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement to begin the impeachment inquiry into the President is the correct course of action and upholds the Constitution and the protection of our nation that elected members of Congress are sworn to uphold.

The President's phone call to the Ukrainian president to tell him to conduct an investigation of Sen. Joe Biden and his son, and somehow seemingly tying that with the withholding of a military aid package from the U.S. to the Ukraine already approved by Congress, is unbecoming of the office of the presidency.  Such behavior gravely harms and endangers the United States' national security.

After Speaker Pelosi's announcement, the President said that he would release a complete unclassified and unredacted transcript of the phone call. Yet, what was released was a "memo" of the call, not a verbatim transcript, but an incomplete record of the actual call.

The whistleblower's report by a member of the American intelligence community regarding the President's and his attorney's contacts with Ukraine is also deeply troubling, and must be fully investigated. The whistleblower's full report must be released to Congress and the American people without delay.

We the American people have the right to know.  Our nation's security and future are at stake.
