Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post’s reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker will tackle the unique case of the Trump presidency. They will argue that “rather than being an accidental creature of chaos, Trump’s first term is a careful and purposeful pattern of disorder.” Leonnig and Rucker will draw on in-depth interviews, first-hand witnesses, and previously never before-seen material. They will explore how Trump has shaken up alliances, reinvented the presidency, and compromised the integrity of American institutions like the FBI. The duo won their Pulitzers for their coverage of National Security Agency spying, Secret Service misconduct, and Donald Trump’s unprecedented 2016 campaign.
Leonnig has primarily focused on the White House and government accountability for The Washington Post since 2000. She is also a contributor for MSNBC. In 2015, Leonnig won the Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on security failures and misconduct inside the Secret Service. In 2014, she helped The Washington Post earn a Pulitzer Prize revealing the U.S. government’s secret of broad surveillance of Americans through the disclosures of Edward Snowden. Before joining The Washington Post, she was a staff writer for The Charlotte Observer and The Philadelphia Inquirer. During her time with both newspapers, she covered city halls, legislatures, and Congress. Leonnig is a former Paul Miller Washington Reporting Fellow. In addition to the Pulitzers, Leonnig is a three-time winner of the George Polk Award. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Leonnig and her husband, John Reeder, currently reside in Washington D.C. with their two daughters.
Philip Rucker is the White House Bureau Chief for The Washington Post. Rucker offers his political analysis for NBC News and MSNBC. He is a current board member for the Yale Daily News Foundation. Rucker has covered Congress, the Obama White House, and the 2012 and 2016 presidential campaigns. Prior to becoming White House Bureau Chief, he was a local news reporter for The Washington Post. In 2018, Rucker received a Pulitzer Prize, the George Polk Award, and the Sigma Delta Chi Award for his extensive coverage of Russian interference. That same year, he received the Gerard R. Ford Journalism Prize for covering the Trump presidency. Rucker graduated from Yale University with a degree in history.
