SFBFF conscientiously expands the notions of "Black film-making" to a global perspective. The organization is multicultural and inclusive of all in the expression of the African Diaspora experience.
The San Francisco Black Film Festival has screened more than 10,000 films from around the world. Kali O'Ray (son of Ave Montague) and his wife Katera Crossley, both formerly of Atlanta, Georgia are co-directors of The San Francisco Black Film Festival.

Found on the home page of www.sfbff.org, "America Needs A Racial Facia"l Directed by the late San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi was screened in collaboration with " The Unity Group" at Congregation Emanu-EL in San Francisco, June 18, 2016 as part of the San Francisco Black Film Festival.
The 8 minutes and 52 seconds film is a visual statement on racism in America. Adachi was a tireless advocate for social justice who taught police departments, judges, lawyers and whoever would listen about the perils of implicit bias. If our nation had only paid attention to Adachi's 8:52, George Floyd may not have been tortured to the point of death with Derek Chauvin's 8:46. Watch the film and have a deeper understanding of the enormity of what George Floyd experienced. It will take your breath away.
The screening at Congregation Emanu-EL was followed by a panel discussion with Jeff Adachi, Civil Rights Attorney Pamela Price, Attorney Jacq Wilson and then California PUC Judge Karen Clopton, who is currently a San Francisco Human Rights Commissioner. Click Here to see the panel on Implicit Bias with clip of Commander Toney Chaplin, then Acting Chief of San Francisco Police, speaking about his harassment by police. Footage made available by Johnnie Burrell of International Media TV, a tireless chronicler of Bay Area Community News. This one program is just one indicator of the mission of the San Francisco Black Film Festival and its commitment to social justice.
