Times have changed, and so have we!!

The spread of the Coronavirus has forced a seemingly world wide stay at home order and closed down the malls, dine-in restaurants, movie theaters and pretty much any public place were people will likely congregate.  So, since we can't meet you in the theaters, this 2020 'Year of the Covid'.  We will meet you in your living rooms.

Verda Byrd has been living her entire life as a black woman. Only until the age of 70 Verda made a shocking discovery. She was adopted and her biological parents were actually white. 70 Years of Blackness takes a look into Verda's story while examining the effects race played within the adoption industry.

Syd works at one of the worst property management firms in the city. As a black queer masculine of center artist, Syd deals with the daily slights from ignorant co-workers, an oblivious boss, and a killer workload. Louise, a gambling-addicted coworker, pressures Syd into contributing to the office lotto pool. The following morning, Syd learns that they have won the lotto or so they think. In an act of rebellion, Syd trashes the office that has caused her so much pain and when confronted, finds the courage to leave this life behind and pursue their dreams.

In Tender the tensions caused by San Francisco’s housing crisis unfold for three black trans women in the Tenderloin.

Under the backdrop of San Francisco’s housing crisis, the beauty of a historically LBGT-friendly district is revealed. Tender tells the story of three black trans women and their inextricable connections to San Francisco’s often maligned Tenderloin neighborhood; Janetta, Ronjah, and Cookie as very search for housing in a ballooning market that is unaffordable and may leave them homeless. These women take pride in living and working in this pre-Stonewall site of LBGTQ liberation, yet the spaces they hold dear erode as San Francisco’s housing crisis grows out of control.

Frustrated by the lack of opportunities for black people he had in France, Mickael has been living in the United States for the past 5 years. Proud of his success, he invited his little brother (Matthieu) to Chicago to convince him to try his luck here. Unfortunately, everything turns into a nightmare when they accidentally smash a white cop on the side of the road.

A young boy finds an unusual father figure when he finds and befriends a dead body.

Body and Son is the story of DeShawn, a 9-year-old boy who lives with his single mother. He comes across the dead body of a man he believes to be his absentee father and confides in it about being bullied at school until his real father unexpectedly returns causing DeShawn to react in the only way he knows how.

Based on the Dearborn Heights murders, two attorneys face off in trying to decide the fate of a man, who in a fit of rage commits an unthinkable crime. Natasha Marshall, prosecution attorney, believes in justice and the death penalty, while Joe Tucker, defense attorney, thinks time served in jail can change and rehabilitate a person.

Black Unscripted is a documentary short film about blackness and racial identity. We witness how a limited, stereotypical view of blackness has scarred an entire community and the response from members of the black community. We see these individuals’ responses through painful but positive discussions ultimately acknowledging beauty in black diversity and challenging all of us to break the cycle of placing limitations on blackness.

A man tows the line between life and death as he struggles with a mental illness called complicated grief.
Forlorning is a suicide awareness film which tells the story of Neal Bateman, an African American male who is suffering from a mental illness called complicated grief. In the film, we follow his deteriorating mental state as he prepares to take his own life.

"Aghast" is based on the true story of 23-year-old Korryn Gaines. A several hour standoff between police and Korryn and her 5-year-old son turned deadly when police used a SWAT team to force entry into Korryn's home, arguably instead of exhausting all means available to de-escalate the situation.  Presenting "Aghast" to US and international audiences is meant to be one of many tools to help facilitate conversation between law enforcement and the communities they serve, build bridges of understanding, and promote positive changes and practices.

Breed today joined the Department on the Status of Women (DOSW), Elected and City leaders, and community advocates to celebrate Women’s History Month at City Hall. Mizan Dadres-Oman , 16, was last seen around 4:30 p.m. on the 800 block of Foerster Street, located towards the southern part of San Francisco. She is described as a Black teen, 5-foot-3 and 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
