City Council Approves Historic Housing Ordinance
I'm so proud that this week our Council approved a bold housing ordinance that innovates and redefines what makes a "home" which, ultimately, will bring down housing costs and help to prevent homelessness. This action means Oakland is a national leader in addressing the housing crisis by updating our zoning and building codes to promote flexibility and innovation, including the legalization of safe RVs and tiny homes on private property. Thank you Councilmembers Dan Kalb and Sheng Thao for your partnership!
Bay Area Pitches FIFA To Host 2026 World Cup
Last Friday, I was proud to join my fellow Mayors London Breed and Sam Liccardo to make the pitch for a Bay Area 2026 World Cup. It was a pleasure to discuss all that the Bay Area—and our people, culture, and location—has to offer a worldwide audience. Futbol is life!
A Wonderful Día De Los Muertos Festival In Fruitvale
A beautiful Sunday in Fruitvale. This Día De Los Muertos, as we remembered and celebrated those who are no longer with us, I was delighted by the spirit of our community, expressed in costumes and ofrendas. Thank you to the Unity Council for an amazing event.
Also on Sunday, Oakland Roots and Street Soccer USA hosted a game between elected officials and youth—I won't say who won. Thanks to Attorney General Rob Bonta, Asm. Mia Bonta, City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas, and City Councilmembers Loren Taylor and Treva Reid for joining!

Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener to announce legislation to combat fencing, the sale of stolen goods on City streets. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
