BORN WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER
IS WORTHY OF NOTE
Dr. King, Sidney Poitier, and Harry Belafonte, civil rights activists and comrades in arms for justice, equality and equity, were all born in the first quarter of the year of their birth. Dr. King, two years younger, was born January 15, 1929 (died at 39), Sidney Poitier February 20, 1927 (died at 94, weeks before his 95 birthday) and Harry Belafonte was born March 1,1927.
The documentary "The Sit-In" has rare footage of Dr. King just a few weeks before his death on the Tonight Show in 1968 hosted by Harry Belafonte. Johnny Carson persuaded a reluctant Belafonte to host the show. Check it out on PEACOCK for free. Luminaries that week included Sidney Poitier, Robert F. Kennedy, Aretha Franklin, Lena Horne, Paul Newman and more.

DR. KING STOOD FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Dr. King's last march and stand was for economic justice. He was gunned down on April 4, 1968 a little over two months from his 39th Birthday, January 15, 1968. It is significant that the first cohort of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Doris Ward Workforce Development City of San Francisco OEWD Dream Keeper Initiative is launched on Dr. King's Birthday as a pragmatic celebration of his life.

Documentary Coming...
In development by University of Georgia faculty, current and past students and members of the Pamoja 50th Anniversary Committee (2020), “When The Dogs Left” is a documentary film inspired by events surrounding the founding and flourishing of “PAMOJA” by Pastor Nawanna Lewis Miller. It showcases interwoven stories of Pastor Lewis-Miller and alumni across five (5) decades through historic heights and emotional experiences.
"When The Dogs Left" closely examines the racial climate of the University of Georgia through the eyes of students who inherited the legacy of desegregation from Hamilton Holmes, (who became a renowned medical doctor and leader) and Charlayne Hunter-Gault, (well-known former NPR journalist), and the legacy of cultural connection born of Pastor Lewis-Miller’s longing for pamoja (Swahili word for togetherness). After 50 years the African American cultural connection still lives on at the University of Georgia.

Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener to announce legislation to combat fencing, the sale of stolen goods on City streets. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
