MAYOR LONDON BREED ANNOUNCES TYRONE JUE TO SERVE AS NEW ACTING DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Jue to replace Debbie Raphael, who is resigning after serving as Director for the last eight years.
San Francisco, CA — Today Mayor London N. Breed announced that Tyrone Jue will serve as the new Acting Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment. Jue has previously served as Assistant Deputy General Manager at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and as the Mayor’s Environmental Policy Advisor. He is currently the Mayor’s appointee on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors.
“San Francisco has been a national leader on climate change and sustainability policies, and I’m confident that Tyrone will continue to lead the Department of the Environment in that critical mission,” said Mayor Breed. “Tyrone has worked hard to advance environmental justice policies, improve air quality in our underserved Bay Area communities, and implement CleanPowerSF and other clean energy initiatives during his time with the City.”
Jue will be replacing Debbie Raphael, who is resigning from the Department after serving for eight years. During that time, the San Francisco Department of the Environment has helped reduce San Francisco’s greenhouse gas emissions by over 40%, completed an ambitious Climate Action Plan that is centered in equity and has over 150 recommended actions, expanded a robust system of composting and recycling to get the City closer to its zero waste goals, championed policies to reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, designed the most comprehensive all-electric new construction ordinance in the country, and facilitated the education of generations of young people on environmental stewardship.
“I want to thank Debbie for her years of service fighting for climate justice with the City,” said Mayor Breed. “Under her leadership, the Department advanced significant policies to improve our environment, culminating in the recent release of our ambitious update to our Climate Action Plan. While this work has been important, issues with the Department have been raised recently by the Controller and the City Attorney. At this time, new leadership at the Department will allow us to continue the important work started under Debbie’s tenure.”
