Meeting His Holiness with Delegation to India

It was a blessing to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, whose spiritual leadership and advocacy for compassion and freedom is an inspiration across the globe. I just returned from India with a delegation of the US Conference of Mayors, with the Center for Interfaith Relations and the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Mayors of Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Tacoma and San Leandro. A focus of our meetings is combating hate and extremism. Some highlights include:

We visited the National Ghandi Museum and Library in New Delhi.

In Amritsar, we were welcomed to the Mecca of Sikhism - the Golden Temple. Words cannot describe the profound power of this place of beauty, where 100,000 people a day receive meals with the support of volunteers and donated food.

Future of the Bay Area w/ San Jose Mayor Liccardo

On Monday, I will join my friend and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo for a discussion on the future of Bay Area cities and lessons learned during our time as big city mayors. Mayor Liccardo and I both took office in 2015, and have seen great progress and great challenges in our cities during the last eight years. Join us for this in-person event at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on Monday, December 12 from 12:30-1:30pm. More info below!

This Friday, Laney College is hosting a meet and greet for Women in Precision Metal Cutting Careers. The event is free, and a good chance to learn about Laney's state-of-the-art Machine Technology Program, which has a 100% job placement rate for graduates and starting annual income in the Bay Area ranges from $55k - $87K plus benefits.

From Laney: Come and hear from successful women machinists who are graduates of our program, talk to current female students, and ask our faculty about job opportunities and training in this exciting field! Counselors will be on hand to answer your enrollment and financial aid questions. Fees and costs should not be a barrier to enrollment — the department awards between $20,000 and $50,000 in industry scholarships each year.

And a reminder that Spring is Free at Laney and all Peralta Colleges.
