THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

The MLK Celebration of Freedom, Justice, and Beloved Community will be held live the evening of Friday, January 13, 2023, at the City’s storied War Memorial Herbst Theatre.

Recording artist Emily King headlines the program, joined by vocalist Goapele, San Francisco Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin and Minister Marvin White of Glide with spoken word performances, the gospel luminaries of Glide Ensemble, and soul singers Sangin’ Sara & James P. Smith.

We are heartened and glad to be offering this excellent evening of live music and artistic performance in order to lift up our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations for 2023. January 13 will open the week of celebrations honoring Dr. King and his legacy, and we could not be more thrilled to be welcoming these incredible performers to the stage to lift this up.
Aaron Grizzell, executive director of the NorCal MLK Foundation
In planning this concert, we have been looking forward to being back in space together. When we consider themes of freedom, justice, and beloved community, we think of those who were part of the movement and who helped Dr. King move forward the work. January 13 will be a beautiful opportunity to enjoy some amazing performances, and it will also be a chance to remember members of the movement who are indelibly linked to Dr. King’s dream.
Sheryl Evans Davis, Ed.D., executive director of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission.

This event will be offered live only at the Herbst Theatre on the evening of January 13, and will not be streamed virtually. Tickets for the Herbst Theater performance are available via City Box Office (www.cityboxoffice.com).
