For Immediate Release
The upcoming event, June 1, 2024, hosted by the National Coalition of Black Veteran Organizations will highlight Black Military History while paying homage to the legacy of Brigadier General Charles Young. The program will be an introduction to the national project to establish a statue of Brigadier General Young in Washington, D.C. We have been working toward this for years, with a goal of getting this done within the next seventeen months. The timeline may appear to be ambitious, however, with public support we are confident in our ability to meet the challenge. We have requested Congressman Hakeem Jeffries Office provide us with guidance in seeking authorization to place the statue on the grounds of the National African American Museum. On Saturday, the Coalition will announce the Team who will acquire the land usage agreement.
We invite you to attend and hear from the people who are actively involved as veterans service providers and advocates in the preservation of Black Military History. The program is sponsored by Veterans N Transition with participating organizations representatives: Charles Blatcher, III, Chm National Coalition of Black Veteran Organizations, Edward DuBose, NAACP Chm Veterans Service Committee, Paul Mathews, Founder Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, Judith Cotten, Secretary National Association of Black Military Women, Michael Theard, Past President of the 9th & 10th Horse Cavalry Association, Denese Johnson, Descendant of Brigadier General Charles Young, Gerald Neal, Kentucky State Senator, James Gallenstein, Former Judge/Executive Mason County Fiscal Court, Reverend L.
