Mayor London N. Breed today released an Executive Directive to strengthen transparency and accountability between City Departments and partner organizations by requiring uniform and stricter standards regarding fundraising.

Monday, September 21, 2020, San Francisco was awarded nearly $45 million in capital and operating costs from the State’s Project Homekey for the purchase of the Granada Hotel as Permanent Supportive Housing. The San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and Episcopal Community Services, with support from Supervisor Aaron Peskin, applied for $44.8 million in funding to purchase and refurbish the 232-room Lower Nob Hill hotel. The purchase of the hotel is part of Mayor Breed’s Homelessness Recovery Plan, which includes the largest one-time expansion of Permanent Supportive Housing in 20 years.

The American Medical Association (AMA) today joined the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council (AATCLC) and Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) as co-plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The parties are represented by Pollock Cohen, LLP.

The AATCLC is seeking a highly organized self-starter to assist in the implementation of an exciting new statewide project. "Finishing The Fight" is an innovative project that will educate, engage, and empower African American/African Immigrant communities to fight back against the predatory tobacco industry. The project will provide technical assistance on policy initiatives that restrict the sale of mentholated and unregulated flavored tobacco products.

Today, marks the 57th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington For Jobs and Freedom. John Lewis, at the age of 23, was the youngest speaker at the March. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was 34; Bayard Rustin was 51, and A. Phillip Randolph was 74. It was an intergeneration milestone in the struggle for democracy. Tonight, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and the Honorable Elihu Harris present their Tribute to John Lewis.

As Oakland's Fruitvale District continues to be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, The Unity Council and UCSF are partnering with several community groups to hold a "Test and Respond" campaign — Sanando Juntos: Fruitvale (Healing Together: Fruitvale). Two days of free mass testing will be held on Sept. 12 and 13 for families living in the 94601 - zip code. The testing will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in La Clínica de La Raza parking lot, 35th Avenue and E. 12th Street.
