Mayor London N. Breed Wednesday appointed Dr. Anton Nigusse Bland to serve as Director of Mental Health Reform. In this new role created by Mayor Breed, Dr. Nigusse Bland will be responsible for reviewing how San Francisco provides mental health and substance use services to homeless individuals, and making recommendations on how to reform the system.

In 1971, civil rights activist Ann Atwater teamed up with an unlikely ally, KKK member C.P. Ellis, after a decade-long feud. Together, they shared a goal to reduce school violence and ensure peaceful desegregation.

Mayor London N. Breed today signed legislation establishing the SoMa West Community Benefit District (CBD), the largest of the 17 CBDs citywide, to help ensure a welcoming, clean, and economically vibrant local community. “I am focused every day on keeping every neighborhood in our city clean, safe, and vibrant,” said Mayor Breed. “SoMa West CBD is the result of these neighbors, merchants, property owners, and stakeholders coming together to benefit the community for everyone who lives and works here, and I am committed to working with them to continue the progress we are making."
