The Western Region Fall Business Meeting will be held on November 18th and 19th in the San Francisco Financial District. The event is hosted by the UFSC-San Francisco Bay Area Chapter under the leadership of President Walter Brown, Jr. We are excited to showcase the International UFSC the following professional development programs in the showcase "UFSC Programs and Sponsors Forum kickoff on November 18th from 1:00 PM-5:30 PM.

Dr. Maxine Hickman, President of the San Francisco Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women encourages members and the general public to support the work of the Black Coaltion on AIDS lead by Executive Director Perry Lange. Recently, SF NCBW members, Vice President Evelyn Perkins and Jackie Wright were at BCOA to help women in need of an outfit to dress for success. LaHitz Media's Jacquie Taliaferro and Wright Enterprises' Jackie Wright, journalists, activists, and media company owners join forces to highlight the political happenings in San Francisco. Filmmaker Taliaferro recently made a film about the hotly contested District 10 Race for Supervisor, "10-10 Gotta Win." Wright is working on a reconciliation documentary about Viet Nam and its impact "Old Soldiers'Stories: Journey to Healing." Far afield from the political world, Taliaferro has covered Cannes bringing awareness to filmmakers about its potential benefit financially and critically. Wright works with such arts groups as the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, www.lhtsf.org.

Check out the latest from the Jazz Heritage Center. JHC is one of the sponsors for an American Cancer Society benefit Monday at Yoshi's. This is the 36th anniversary performance of the San Francisco All-Star Big Band under the direction of David Hardiman, Sr. and features the incomparable Denise Perrier on vocals as well as Nina Causey and D. Anthony. That's an 8pm performance, and tickets can be purchased online at Yoshis. Check out the other notes, musical and otherwise.

This fall the Barbara Lee and Elihu Harris Lecture Series, a program of Merritt College and the Martin Luther King Jr Freedom Center, brings Dorothy Cotton to the Marriott Hotel 7pm, October 20th. Other dignitaries this program year include Bob Zellner, formerly of SNCC, Jack O'Dell, formerly with SCLC and Civil Rights icon Congressman John Lewis.
