The Fillmore is getting ready for Mardi Gras weekend, and so is the Jazz Heritage Center! You won't want to miss the Jam Session THIS Sunday, Feb. 19 at 4:30 in the Lush Life Gallery .
This is a double collaboration with friends and neighbors: They're saluting our friends across the Bay at the 57th Street Gallery who have one of the hottest "Blue Monday" jazz jam sessions around! JHC will be featuring Melvin Butts, sax; Leon Joyce, Jr., drums; Keith Saunders, keys; and Charles Hamilton, trombone.
JHC is also coordinating this jam session with our neighbor Yoshi's and its tribute to Eddy Marshall . Give yourself a double treat on Sunday!

From the Desk of Toni Beckham--The Physicians Medical Forum (PMF) aims to increase the number of African American physicians, residents and medical students in the Oakland/San Francisco Bay and Northern California, while helping to improve the delivery of culturally competent medical care to better meet the health care needs of African Americans and community at-large. To that end, on February 18th, the non-profit organization will host its annual "Doctors on Board Program--a day-long, tuition-free, information-filled series of seminars, workshops and case studies to promote the increase of Black students attending medical school.

The Barbara Lee & Elihu Harris Lecture Series features Congressman John Lewis (D),April 21st, 7 p.m. at Beebe Memorial Cathedral, 3900 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA. This lecture series promotes an ample exchange of ideas to help inspire and move forward new leadership and servantship. All lectures present Civil Rights leaders who worked closely with Dr. King, and who continue to work tirelessly for social justice.
