Marin Clean Energy takes on Goliath PG&E with its $16 million per quarter paid advertising budget to get the word out via community meetings that Marin County has an opportunity to bring renewable energy to the county. The new alternative is the result of Carole Migden's AB117 that became law in 2002. It allows local governments to purchase renewable energy for citizens. Women's Energy Matters, a Fairfax-based non-profit working for energy efficiency, is concerned that the message of the benefits of renewable energy (wind, solar, geothermal) may be drowned out by the millions of dollars of PG&E's paid advertising. PG&E's PR "Playbook" used to fight Community Choice in Southern California, states Community Choice as "Too Costly and Too Risky," as the company plans to bring on new nuclear plants to meet energy demands. Women's Energy Matters calls for Marin citizens to attend community meetings on Community Choice.
